George Butler, the British bodybuilding icon and aerobics coach whose work inspired celebrities including Princess Diana and George Clooney, has died, his family announced on Twitter. He was 78.

George Butler was not alone in the beautiful artwork that he created, in which sporting excellence and sex appeal met. His amazing female costars and friends included Marie Westenra (aka Marie West), the gold-winged Burka of London. She was replaced in the series of meditations/sexions later in the series. Here are a few of George’s underrated bodybuilding images.

George Butler’s Mercedes cost $30,000. Pictured here is the original, just from the following day after the first car was delivered:

George Butler was the star photographer and founding member of the London-based Acrophenia Group, which produced short films and happened to invite me to do consulting photography. The first film was called: “Erotic Dreams.”

Of the film, the photo shoots, the gym work, the costumes, the…men and women falling out of beds, smoking…er…etc. Having met and photographed many of his clients, both young and old, in his newly opened gym, Erotic Dreams, I could understand his choice of subjects. Well, I could, and did…

Butcher of the Estate of England, uhm… George Butler, a (subtle) tribute to one of my faves/Erotic Dream subjects, Earl Bazooka.
