WASHINGTON — No one said it was easy being First Lady. Michelle Obama might feel the frustration of it all after she plays herself on an upcoming episode of the ABC show “black-ish.”

“She’s gonna be in it,” series creator Kenya Barris said Sunday at the Television Critics Association winter press tour. “We’re just gonna see who’s up for it.”

The episode airs at the end of February, but can’t be called a reunion since Barris was talking about the scenes shot in Chicago and a casting director will work from the wife’s staff, but the role was to be played by the former first lady.

Barris and Obama have been friends for several years after making “Drumline” and hosting a show together.

“I was hoping that she would have such a fondness for the idea of a sitcom and would be completely up for it and we would really treasure this opportunity to make a show with her,” Barris said.

“black-ish” has had a string of real-life guest stars including notable celebrities. Donald Glover, Laurence Fishburne, Viola Davis, Kerry Washington, Michael K.
