Description

1944 Sager Chemical Axe; Puget Sound Pattern Restoration with Labels
This auction is for an authentic, Puget Sound pattern, 1944 Sager Chemical Axe.
This axe head was thoroughly cleaned, stripped and hot salt blued. After bluing was complete, the entire axe head was dipped in clear lacquer, as following how it was done in 1944 at the Sager factory. Reproduction, time-correct factory labels were produced and affixed to both sides of the axe head, as they were when this axe was put up for sale.
A custom, straight grain, 36” Hickory haft was carved for this axe head. Approximately 11” below the axe head, the haft was given a rectangular shape for a superior grip. The haft was sanded smooth and given a flamed grain. Boiled linseed oil was hand rubbed into the grain and cured.
The axe head was hand fit tight to the shoulders. A Birch wedge soaked in boiled linseed oil and Titebond Ultimate was used to make the axe head and haft one solid piece. The top eye was cut, shaped and sanded smooth.
The entire axe was given a generous coat of Axe Wax to seal out the elements and provide a beautiful sheen.
Total length from top of eye to bottom of haft is 34”. The axe head from mid blade to blade is 10” with 3 1/2” blades. Total weight is 4 lbs 12.8 oz.
This is a beautiful, vintage Puget Sound pattern axe, brought to you by Stunner Blades Customs, San Francisco, California.
This axe will be securely packaged and promptly shipped to the winner of this auction. USA shipping only, no international shipping. Please bid soundly as no returns are accepted.
