1961 Complete Original Sheet Bay of Pigs Invasion Fidel Castro Playa Giron

Description

This was printed by the Comision Playa Giron at La Imprenta Nacional de Cuba (National Printing House of Cuba) in april 1961, right after the Bay of Pigs invasion. It was never put into circulation because Fidel Castro saw it as a cult of personality and ordered immediately to destroy all those had been printed. That's why it is very difficult to find this stamp now and much harder to find the complete sheet.
It reads a phrase said by Castro in 1961 when he declared socialism in Cuba: People are not afraid of death but the yoke.
In April 1961, a group of mercenaries with the support of us aircraft and warships, invaded thesouthern part of the province of Matanzas, Cuba. Their main objective was tosettle a beach head there for a bigger US invasion. All the people in Cuba was mobilized and sentthere to fight against the invaders. Fidel Castro himself commanded all theoperations from a command post he set very close from the place where theactions were taking place. As a result,many Cuban militiamen (regular workers turned into soldiers with essential military training) were injured and killed, but they managed todefeat the invaders in only 72 hours and all the mercenaries that survived werearrested. This invasion is known as the Bay Of Pig Invasion or La Invasion de Playa Giron. And it is one of the mostimportant moments in Cuba’s recent history.
