    Description

For sale is this antique 19th century axe head, weighing 3lbs.6.6 ounces. Signed "Smith, Lyon, & Field Superior Cast Steel" on the face, and "3-1/2" on the end, it measures 7" long, with a 4-3/8" wide edge, a 1" X 3-1/4" end, and a 3/4" X  2-1/2" eye. It is in very good overall condition, but with a chipped edge which will require skillful honing and sharpening by a experienced hand. This is a rare to find axe head, that I have never come across before in my 22 years selling on eBay. A internet search reveals only that Smith Lyon & Field made wooden planes in New York City between the years 1884-1895. Please view all of the pictures to determine condition for yourself. {Inventory Tag #292 Black} Be sure to check my eBay store for hundreds of vintage tools and estate finds.
