Custom Vintage Collins Legitimus True Cruiser Axe on White Ash
This auction is for a custom, vintage Collins Legitimus, true cruiser axe, by Stunner Blades Customs, San Francisco, California.
This authentic Collins Legitimus cruiser double bit head was thoroughly cleaned and hand polished. It has clearly been through some past work, as some natural character was left on the head.
As viewed in photo #10, we were careful to leave what embossing was left on this head to identify it as a true Collins Legitimus cruiser.
The haft was hand carved from a single piece of White Ash. The wood was smoothed and given a flamed grain. The haft was given a thin profile to remove weight and to give a solid swinging grip. The haft was rubbed and cured with boiled linseed oil.
The axe head was fit tight to the shoulders. A Purple Heart wedge, coated with boiled linseed oil and Titebond Ultimate, was driven into the kerf. The top eye was cut proud 3/8”, shaped and polished.
Total length from top of eye to bottom of haft is 30”. The double bit from mid blade to blade is 8” in length with 4” blades. Total approximate weight of this axe is 3 lbs 0.8 oz.
