This auction is for a custom, vintage Craftsman ‘double oval’ embossed logo hatchet, brought to you by Stunner Blades Customs, San Francisco, California.
This authentic Craftsman hatchet head was thoroughly cleaned, hand polished and sharpened. The embossed Craftsman logo is clear and legible. Through research dating, this Craftsman logo was used during the 1940’s.
The haft was hand carved from solid American Black Walnut and hand fit to the hatchet eye. Once solid haft shoulder contact was achieved (see photo #8), a custom cut Canary wood wedge was coated with boiled linseed oil and Titebond Ultimate. The wedge was driven fully into the kerf, cut 1/4” proud and smoothed.
The entire hatchet was hand rubbed with boiled linseed oil, followed by genuine Odie’s Oil for a smooth hand feel.
Total length from top of eye to bottom of haft is 16 1/2”. Length from mid bit to poll is 5 1/4” with a 3” sharpened bit. Total weight of this hatchet is 1 lb
10.3 oz.
