Description
Here is a good Dedham Pottery vase hand thrown by Hugh Cornwall Robertson. It has a yellow olive anddeep
blue green glaze with blue highlights dripping over the heavy baluster form. Hugh Robertson was fascinated by Asian ceramics and glazes, in particular the Chinese oxblood red. Often called experimental, this work is really Hugh's true art pottery and the famous crackle dinnerware was made to keep the firm afloat. He died in 1908. It measures 9 inches in tall and 6 inches in diameter at the widest. Marked with a hand incised mark, BW, and a conjoined HCR. There is professional restoration to the foot and a kiln kiss on the body, but is otherwise in good condition with no chips or cracks. An nice piece of Dedham with an excellent glaze.
