Description
ECLOGITEThe fresh rock can be striking in appearance, with red to pink garnet (almandine-pyrope) in a green matrix of sodium-rich pyroxene (omphacite).
Eclogite typically results from high-pressure metamorphism of mafic igneous rock (typically basalt or gabbro) as it plunges into the mantle in a subduction zone.

The Grenville orogeny was a long-lived Mesoproterozoic
mountain-building event associated with the assembly of the supercontinent Rodinia
. Its record is a prominent orogenic belt which spans a significant portion of the North American continent, from Labrador to Mexico, as well as to Scotland, which was geographically close at this time... and situated on south hemisphere !
