Description
National Flag of People’s Republic of Bulgaria, manufactured in the Soviet Union in 1950.This is GUARANTEED 100% ORIGINAL FLAG made in 1950, not a recent replica!
The flag is made in exact same manner as WW2 - early post-war Soviet naval flags, a pattern immediately recognizable to any Soviet flag collector. An impressive size, 79" long, 37" tall. Made in red Wool Bunting having factory printed emblem of Communist Bulgaria, with hoist sleeve in rough grey cloth (for holding the rope used to attach the flag to a line on the mast.) This type of flags was specifically designed for naval or maritime use only, not for dry land. The hoist sleeve has printed name of the Soviet
Vosrozdenie
Factory and a 1950 date of manufacture. Someone also wrote
Болгария
(“Bulgaria”) in Russian on the sleeve, probably a sailor to identify to the flag (the inscription in red marker has faded and is barely noticeable.) The style of the maker stamp as well as material of the cloth and hoist sleeve are characteristic of the very early Soviet flags, subtly different from those made in the 60s or later.
The flag is in GOOD overall condition. It has several small moth bites, mostly in the far corners and on the white field, but they are not too noticeable. There are also a couple of small repairs on the green and white field visible in our photos – also not too detractive considering the overall size of the flag. The loops of the hemp hoist rope are missing, but the rope itself is still present inside its sleeve. The flag is free of stains, soiling or overall wear and still looks very presentable. The colors are strong.
The flag was probably made for the Soviet Navy or merchant fleet vessels. Its exact purpose is unknown, but in any case, this is a very unusual and interesting find for the serious flag collector!
