High purity Helium gas in 120mm borosilicate glass ampoule 99.9993%
High purity Helium gas ampoule, purity 99.9993% sealed in boro silicate ampoule under vacuum in our lab. Size:  length ~120mm, dia. 12mm.
This ampoule was especially made for  experiments with high voltage. On the picture you see the illuminated ampoule. Connected to a 2000V/35kHz transformer via two metal plates. The transformers can be obtained on request.
These discharge tubes do not contain any metal parts or electrodes which could burn out and contaminate the spectrum. If not overheated they last for many years.
Helium ampoule in microwave oven - do not light it up longer than 4 secs to avoid damage of the glass.
A colourless, odourless gas that is totally unreactive. It is extracted from natural gas wells, some of which contain gas that is 7% helium. It is used in deep sea diving for balloons and, as liquid helium , for low temperature research. The Earth's atmosphere contains 5 parts per million by volume, totalling 400 million tonnes, but it is not worth extracting it from this source at present.
