Beginning in 1966, Long March teams comprised of Red Guards with a flagbearer in front, sent out on foot to re-trace the route of the Long March and visit important revolutionary sites, such as Zunyi and Yan'an.) Following is a description of preparations for one such march: 1966 is coming to an end, the school is still in the stage of government-run Red Guards, and students' criticism of some teachers continues. Although factional struggles have clear views, they have not yet set their own flags and stand on top of another. Some students are very busy, some students are also panicking. A few boys in the Gao Tongli group simply asked for a room from the school and set up the preparatory office for the "Mao Zedong Thought Long March Team". Four girls from our group immediately participated in the same year. The Long March team reached fifteen members, and the leader decided to start. Before setting off, I went to the Revolutionary Committee of the Flag and Three Combinations at that time, and explained the purpose of our trip-to carry forward the glorious tradition of the revolution and re-take the road of the Red Army's Long March. Route of action-walk from Beijing to Ruijin, then follow the Red Army's Long March route to climb snowy mountains, cross the grass, and reach Yan'an. Material supply requirements-one is to issue guns and self-defense weapons. The second is uniform clothing. When we set off, each of us only gave out a brown belt and a green backpack.
