    Description

FEATURED:  An unusual, rare example of the sleek, simple and eternally 'now' design that GLIDDEN POTTERY was famous for, this beautiful shallow dish/bowl is wonderful as a serving item on your dinner table, and equally useful as a dish for personal items such as favorite jewelry, keys, mail, snack treats, soaps, plants like succulents or cacti, and of course, the perfect pet bowl for your smaller pets who deserve a stylish bowl for their dinner, too!   Wonderful pastel circle swirls decorate both sides of this soft white stoneware piece, done by one of the Gildden staff artists, and a glazed interior means nothing leaks/oozes onto any surface over time. This is a hand-decorated item, and made in Alfred, NY at their factory sometime between 1940-1957- we feel this was done in the early 50's due to its abstract, modern design and colors.   In its heyday, Glidden was one of the most popular and sought after potteries for their high-quality workmanship, design, colors and durability;  even Lucille Ball & Desi Arnaz had a collection in their home and also featured Glidden items on the early "I Love Lucy' shows.  This is in remarkable condition for something 70 or so years old, and other than several small glaze and one clay popped air bubbles found, (part of the glaze and firing process)  looks as if just fresh out of the kiln!  Glidden has become very collectible as one of the Mid Century American Art Potteries to have in one's collection, and this charming, quietly interesting piece is a great example of that era and Glidden's quality, timeless design and work!
MEASURES:  8.5 inches long, 5.5 inches across, and 1.75 inches tall, made of American stoneware clay in the studios of GLIDDEN POTTERY, Alfred NY. The piece is either slipcast or ram pressed, as all their pieces were,  but is hand-decorated and marked 'Glidden,108' in their script on the bottom. In very good condition, other than very minor bubbles already noted, and ready to be enjoyed today in your home, either as part of your ceramics collection or home/kitchen items, or both!  This will be as cool and elegant in the decades ahead as it was over 70 years ago!  Great design is always great design, is it not?
