    Description

An amazing piece! Great gift for the medical professional or lover of classical music! This is a reproduction of a printing plate for Mozart’s Sonata in G. It appears to be a sturdy plastic of some type, firmly attached to a solid block of wood (just under ¾ of an inch thick). The board measures about 11 ¼ x 8 ¼ inches and weighs about 1 pound, 6 ounces. Undated, but the letter is heavily tanned and the company went out of business in 1996, so definitely vintage and I would guess from the late 1970s to early 1980s. Included is a typed letter from Marion Laboratories, a pharmaceutical company (from the Wiki: “was a U.S. pharmaceutical company based in Kansas City, Missouri from 1950 until 1996. The company specialized in bringing to market drugs that had been discovered but unmarketed by other companies …”). The letter notes that this is a gift to a doctor for their response to a product called Cardizem (for angina+). Little known fact, many pharmaceutical companies bribe doctors with small, and sometimes big, gifts. If you’ve ever been in a doctor’s office when an attractive and very well-dressed young person walked in, provoking a smile from the front desk, they were probably reps of Big Pharma bearing gifts (I think some legal restraints have been put on this practice but I’ve seen it happen recently). A rare item of interest to lovers of classical music, collectors of medical/pharmaceutical items and those simply interested in an interesting wall hanging. I know of no others being offered, anywhere.
