Description
Mystery Sharpening Stone Hone For Knife Chisel Plane Sandstone. To be honest, I have absolutely no idea on this one. It was quarried a long time ago as the box I got it in was ancient and dilapidated. One would be inclined to label any sandstone with some banding as a hindostan, but I really don't think this is one. It's odd, it's dual-layered with one side being heavily swirled and the other side having sort of dash formations. There were a lot of sandstones quarried in North America many many years ago besides hindostans and I suspect this may well be one of them. It's porous, the side with the more chaotic appearance is a bit faster than the more plain side and the stone in general is of a hardness similar to typical japanese manmade waterstones. Having said all this, I suppose it could be a hindo, but I have had dozens at this point and none have been like this really. It is a full bench stone size at 8 3/16"x2 5/32"x 11/16". It is oil stripped and will accept water now but I personally would use this with something besides water, or bulk up the water with some dawn or glycerin. Feel free to make a fair offer if you wish. Thanks for looking.
