Description
Otisville NY: Sanitarium/NYC Laboratories/Bio-Tech Inc. Lot of Blueprints/PaperHere is an odd lot of various floorplans, papers, and blueprints, plus a photo, from the property that once housed the New York City Tuberculosis Sanitarium in Otisville, also used as an antitoxin laboratory during WWI, a city health research laboratory for many years, and in 1983 sold to Bio-Tech Inc. a private entity which in 2001 transfered the business to a related entity Breonics, which had by 2007 vacated the facility entirely. Here is some history found online:
In 1906, 59 antitoxin horses (some retired from the police force, others purchased from farmers) were moved to Otisville, in upstate New York, where the city health department maintained a 175-acre animal farm and tuberculosis sanitarium. That year, the city operated 318 stations in all five boroughs where physicians could get immediate access to fresh antitoxin, including 4,000 in free antitoxin for the poor. In addition, at least that much was sold to health departments around the nation. The health department continued to mass-produce antitoxin until well after World War II.
From the 1950s to the 1980s, commercial companies assumed control of manufacturing vaccines and blood-based products, and municipal and state health departments around the nation phased out such activities. The Otisville facility was sold to a biotech company in 1983 with the stipulation that the retired horses living there would be cared for until they died.
Got these at a flea market several years back, I have no idea of their history or origin prior to that. Here is a quick list of what is included (see photos below for visual inventory as well):
2 copies of the property survey blueprint made in 1983 for Otisville Biotech Inc. by Amisa M. Gilpatrick Assoc. of Vernon NJ. These are in a binder and can be taken out of their sleeves, one 8-1/2 x 11, and one unfolds to 11x17.
59 copies of the floor plans of the various buildings on the campus, with a key guide map and list of the buildings as well; all in sleeves in the binder.
A 1929 8x10 photograph entitled, "Employees of Antitoxin Laboratory, Otisville, N.Y. 1929." Individuals identified in ink on front, and some additional information about the occasion of the photo written in pencil on the back, with some damage to the paper surface, but most of it should be decypherable. Condition issues on front side as well.
March 1961 4-page Laboratories Newsletter, published for employees by NYC Bureau of Laboratories, etc.
5 folded architectural blueprints from the facility, entailing Modifications of the Existing Horse Barnand Bleeding Room, etc. (1967). One is very faded and hard to read.
High bidder gets it all as one lot.

BY BIDDING ON OR PURCHASING THIS ITEM, YOU ACKNOWLEDGE AND AGREE TO THE FOLLOWING SELLER TERMS:
1)
COMBINED SHIPPING/POSTAGE:
I happily combine shipping where possible, but orders over will require tracking now because of Postal Service delays. Tracking/delivery confirmation speeds up shipments. DUE TO LIMITATIONS OF THE EBAY PLATFORM,
THERE IS NOW ONLY ONE WAY TO RECEIVE ANY POSSIBLE DISCOUNTS FOR COMBINED SHIPPING CHARGES ON MULTIPLE ONE-DAY PURCHASES,
both Auction and Buy-It-Now formats. There are no longer Ebay refunds for postage once payment has been made:
a. Auction Purchases: Wait for combined shipping invoice on multiple auction wins prior to payment. This may take up to a day based on my schedule, and does not affect your prompt payment status. The message line of the invoice will reflect that the postage has been combined.
b. Buy-It-Now Purchases: If you plan to buy more than one item from me, add them to your shopping cart on a computer (not a phone or tablet), DO NOT USE BUY IT NOW BUTTON. Once you're completed adding to your cart from my listings, go to the shopping cart and click on the button at top of cart page that says "Request Total From Seller." You will be prompted to commit to the purchases, at which point nobody else will be able to buy them. A notice will be sent to me to package your items together and combine your shipping charges as much as possible, and send a hopefully reduced invoice. This may take up to a day, depending on my schedule.
c. International Buyers: You must be logged in to the US eBay site (www.ebay.com) in order to use the shopping cart to request combined shipping invoice. Log out of your country specific eBay and log in at the US site. Note: listings using the eBay Global Shipping program are not subject to combined shipping.
d. No refunds will be made for those who cannot wait for a combined invoice. Please don't bid/buy if you don't agree to this.
2)
POSTAGE:
All USPS postage rates are calculated using the most affordable (not the quickest) shipping class, based on a pre-sale estimated weight and size of the package. If you want to upgrade to a quicker, more expensive postal class, you must let me know BEFORE you pay.
3)
SALES TAX:
Ebay has taken over all duties for sales tax collection for all states that require it. I have no control whatsoever over who pays sales tax, it is out of my hands. Please direct all questions/complaints to the good folks at Ebay.
4)
INTERNATIONAL BUYERS:
Please Note: Import duties, taxes, and charges are not included in the item price or shipping cost. These charges are the buyer's responsibility. Please check with your country's customs office to determine what these additional costs will be prior to bidding or buying. We won't under-value merchandise or mark the item as a gift on customs forms. Doing that is against U.S. and international laws.
5)
REPRODUCTION OF IMAGES:
Seller is not selling the exclusive rights to reproduce images of the item offered. Buyer is of course free to reproduce as they wish, but seller retains and may exercise the right to reproduce any images of the item in the public domain for any purpose before or after the sale, without permission from or compensation to the buyer. 6)
LISTING DISCREPANCIES
If the Title, Description, and/or Photo on a listing do not match, for gosh sakes don't buy it. Let me know instead so I can fix the listing. If you do buy, the item described in the Title of the listing takes precedence over anything else. If you don't agree with that, I will cancel the purchase at your request.
