    Description

HISTORIC, BEAUTIFUL LARGE POTTERY BOWL MADE IN GERMANY IN THE POST-WAR U.S. OCCUPATION ZONE
About two years ago I obtained from an antique shop this really beautiful German pottery bowl.  It was made in Germany, in the U.S. occupation zone brought about by the successful Allied defeat of Germany and subsequent division of defeated Nazi Germany into allied occupation zones.  The large bowl is 11 1/2" width, 12 1/4" length, and 2" depth.  There is some normal edge wear on the base of the bowl but it is overall in what I would rate as VG to Fine condition with no cracks or chips.
At the end of WWII, clearly the economies of European countries was in shambles, both in allied countries such as France and Belgium, and Axis countries of Germany, Austria and Italy (which broke away from the Axis powers towards war's end).  Cities and towns were in ruins with many industries and factories destroyed by Allied bombing to break the back of the Nazi war machine.  As Europe slowly dug out of war's ruin, it is likely that cottage businesses such as pottery arose to generate at least some income for those seeking to start pulling their lives together. This pottery bowl is a good example, with the base of the bowl clearly marked
    Made in Germany U.S. Zone.
30 day return guarantee as long as the bowl is returned in the same condition as sent.  Mailing cost includes insurance and is based on domestic mailing.  International mailing cost is based on destination and is through the Ebay Global Mailing Program.
This will make a nice addition to a number of collections.  As a beautiful large pottery bowl it would make a nice addition to a kitchen or dining room table on its own merit.  As an item made in Germany in the immediate post war aftermath of WWII, in the American occupation zone, it represents fledgling efforts by a German individual or likely small pottery shop, to try to create pottery as a means to generate some funding, perhaps in sales to U.S. occupation soldiers to send back home.
