Restored Original Belknap Blue Grass Carpenter’s Hatchet w/ Original Paper Label
This auction is for an outstanding restored Belknap Blue Grass carpenter’s hatchet with new/old stock hickory haft with genuine Blue Grass paper label.
This hatchet head came to us and was thoroughly cleaned. The head was polished by hand and the Belknap Blue Grass stamp is absolutely incredible.
We were able to locate a genuine new/old stock Belknap Blue Grass hickory haft, with the paper label attached. A perfect fit for this fantastic hatchet head. The haft was lightly sanded to remove imperfections and preserve the paper label. It was tightly hand fit to the hatchet head using boiled linseed oil.
Once a tight shoulder fit was achieved, a custom Birch wedge was made to perfectly fit the kerf. Titebond Ultimate was used to help secure it deep inside. Once driven in, the top eye was cut proud approximately 3/16” and sanded to shape.
The haft was given a coat of genuine Odie’s Oil and hand polished.
Total length of this fine hatchet is 18 inches. Total weight is 2 lbs 1.8 oz.
