Description
This is an important piece of Wisconsin Potters' Art, by Robert Caldart, the potter who created his home and studio in the progressive Sconfinato home development in the township of Erin. This piece predates his presence in Sconfinato, while he resided in Brookfield, WI. As the label on the back indicates (see photo), this was a piece entered into the Wisconsin Salon of Art for 1965 held at the UW Madison Union Fine Art Gallery, November of that year. It is unusual to find other than pots, vases, bowls, besides this being a unique sculptural form. For many years it was in the hands of a collector who recently moved from Milwaukee, and I have been fortunate to become its owner. The clay is tightly adhered to the plywood support, in a simple wood frame that measures approx. 44" x 24 1/2" x 3". It is very heavy as there is quite a lot of clay and glaze, and it must weigh around 50 or more pounds. It is wired for hanging, but one must be sure that it is positioned on a strong wall support. It is untitled. The design fits well into a Mid Century MCM interior. There is no damage and no losses. It is ready to be installed. Due to its weight and nature I will not ship this piece, so it must be either picked up in the Brookfield or Greater Milwaukee area, or delivered to a nearby site. Due to the weight of this piece it will not be shippped, unless the buyer takes all responsibility.
