The words and toadstools " are used to denote edible and poisonous fungi respectively.
There are many species which, although non-poisonous, are not particularly good to
eat. There are many old wives tales on how to tell the difference but the safest way is to
learn to recognise a few really palatable mushrooms and leave the rest alone.
Theres no real, scientifically accepted difference between a mushroom and a toadstool, and the terms can
sometimes be used interchangeably to refer to the same types of fungus. However, in common, non-scientific
usage, the term toadstool is more often given to those fungi that are poisonous or otherwise inedible.
