This book details the reforms laid out by the
Chiang Kai-shek Republic ("Government")
and the early beginnings of the Taiwanese Government from 1950 forward.
After the Communists had crossed the Yangtze in 1949, the Government evacuated to Nanking.  It first moved to Canton, later to Chungking, and finally to Taipei, capital of Taiwan
Providence, where it began to function on December 9, 1949.
As peace negotiations failed, the war against the Communists continued. President Chiang Kai-shek resumed office in Taipei on March 1, 1950, and began to institute a series of political and economic reforms to improve the livelihood of the people of Taiwan and in preparation for launching a counteroffensive against the Communists on the mainland. He reshuffled the cabinet and appointed General Chen Cheng as the Premier and initiated a general retrenchment policy, rigidly cut the personnel and other expenditures of the Government.  New young men were brought into the Government, and the troops stationed in the Chusan Archipelago and Hainan island were withdrawn to strengthen the defense of Taiwan. President Chiang Kai-shek started reorganization and rigorous training of the armed forces and initiated many economic and other reforms to increase industrial and agricultural production.
Condition:
Very Good.  In a blue hardcover binding that is externally sound, no bumping, some marks and fading on the spine.  Internally, firmly bound tight binding.  There are no missing pages, no creases or tears.  Some light pencil underlining of text in on few pages.  No highlighting of text or writing in the margins.  Pages are bright with little if any foxing.
