Vintage Custom Winchester Jersey Pattern Axe with Authentic 9mm Wedge
This auction is for a custom Winchester ‘Jersey’ pattern axe, by Stunner Blades Customs, San Francisco, California.
This vintage Winchester head was thoroughly cleaned in house. The rear to the poll was gun blued and cheeks to edge was hand polished. The inside eye was cleaned and coated with linseed oil. This axe head was left for the most part in it’s hard used condition, with mushrooming at the poll and light pitting, as seen in photos. Fantastic character to this American made axe head.
The haft is made from solid hickory. It was sanded and given a flamed grain, followed with genuine Odie’s Oil.
The head was thoroughly seated to the shoulders and a birch wedge was driven in, using linseed oil and Titebond Ultimate.
An authentic, once-fired, Winchester 9mm brass casing was driven in to the extra seated rear of the birch wedge. The brass casing was left proud, above primer. The surrounding wood was sanded to a slope, protecting the sides of the brass casing.
The entire axe was given a coating of genuine Odie’s Oil and cured.
Total length from top of eye to bottom of haft is 19 1/4 inches. The axe head is 5 1/2 inches from mid pole to mid blade. The blade is 4 1/4 inches. Approximate weight of this axe is 3 lbs 4.3 oz.
