    Description

This is a nice vintage hand forged froe in good condition.
There is no makers mark on this froe and it appears to be hand forged.  The froe is used for splitting green wood for chairmaking, splitting shingles, making rails and other splitting tasks.
This froe measures 17" long including the eye with a 13 1/2" blade and it weighs a massive 5 1/2 pounds.  I've cleaned a bit of mushrooming from the back of the blade where some idiot hit it with a hammer.  Never use a hammer or sledge on a froe, wooden club only and it will last forever if well cared for.
The froe is old and pitted but very solid and well made.  It's functionally near perfect, just a bit ugly in appearance.  The eye measures 2 1/4" at the bottom and about 2" at the top so the handle can slip in the eye and stay put while in use.  There is no handle included but making one would be easy given the above dimensions; not too long, about 16" to 20".
Please look at the above images, they show more detail than I can describe here.
Shipping to the USA will be via priority mail.  International buyers I will ship to your preference and this froe weighs about 7-8 pounds packed. I also combine shipping in an effort to save you money on shipping.
