    Description

    This vintage Japanese
    Masakari
    ax was made of hand forged tempered iron over 60 years ago by a master Japanese blade maker, using the skills of the samurai sword maker by hand forging soft steel on the outsides and high carbon steel in the middle. The Masakari blade is designed to allow the user to shelter one's hand behind an opening in the back of the blade while making chops or shaping cuts (see picture 1 & 12).
    The blade is beveled on both sides and t
    he backside has a flat area for pounding. Perhaps the most versatile of all axes.
    It has been well used yet well loved and is from a period of quality craftsmanship which is seldom seen today. Weighing in at 1 pound 12 ounces  and overall 13" long (33 cm) with a blade width of 4" (12.4 cm). It is still
    razor sharp
    and has a nice warm aged patina on its hand crafted Japanese red oak handle, it remains in
