    Description

    Vintage Gladstone MICH. U.S.A. Marbles No. 6 hatchet with original metal cover and handle. handle. Piece is in pretty good condition with wear and signs from use and age but still a decent example of these old Marbles hatchets. The head is clearly marked and there are some numbers and letters on the other side of the head that look as if they we engraved by the owner. They read; MWD280 3001 2XX, perhaps his initials and SS#? Head has been sharpened but nicely done and is not damaged. A screw was placed in the top to keep it tight some time ago. The guard works nicely with good snap and fits nice as well. Piece could be cleaned up to look great. Handle measures 9.5" and over all length is 11.5". The head itself measures 4.5". Also known as the safety hatchet and pocket axe I believe. The guard is marked on the arm; Marble Arms & Mfg. Co. Gladstone MICH. U.S.A. Pat'd 1898.
