    Description

    This is a vintage Matchless single bit axe head that is marked MATCHLESS there is wear on the stamping particularly on the LESS
    It is 7" in length and 4 1/2" across the cutting bit with a weight of 3 lbs 2ozs
    The edge needs to be honed
    There are dings, scratches, peening on the poll and pitting in areas
    I found information in a 1937 Warren Axe & Tool catalog, the Company Warren Axe & Tool described their Matchless brand as a product that had a few defects and would not go into their regular first quality brands...  I do not know what year this axe head was manufactured.
