Vintage Continental Faience & Tile Co. Milwaukee, Wisconsin Alonzo Hauser Pottery Vase 1943 7 3/4" TallUp for auction is a Continental Faience 1943 vase. It measures approximately 7 3/4" tall and 5 3/4" in diameter. It is in good condition with the exception of a very light age hairline on the lip - see last photo. It is free of chips, cracks and repairs. Please see photos for condition.
History:
Continental Ceramics Company was located in South Milwaukee and was earlier knows as the "Continental Faience and Tile Co". The company went out of business at the beginning of WWII due to the inability to continue to import clay from Italy.
In 1942, Alonzo Hauser was a designer and the superintendent of the Continental Ceramic Co, from 1943-1944 he was the Art Director.
Alonzo Hauser (1909-1988) was known as an important and prolific sculptor, his total output of sculpture in a wide variety of medium is estimated to be 500-600 works. His drawings and watercolors estimate approximately 3,500. He has won many awards, taught at the Layton School of Art, and was commissioned to create many works of public and private art over his 50 year career.
