NICE! Vintage/Antique COLLINS Boy Scouts Of America (BSA) "OFFICIAL BOY SCOUT AXE" Hatchet.
I have had only 3 other COLLINS OFFICIAL BOY SCOUT AXES in the past that I have bought and sold, but this axe head is the best one I have had so far! The cutting edge on this axe head is still the original factory ground edge. In other words this axe head has never been sharpened after it left the factory years ago (see pics). The poll end does have some hammer marks on it, along with a few chips on the edges, and some slight mushrooming too (see pics). The "Fleur-de-lis" with Eagle and the BSA motto "BE PREPARED" are still  clear on the axe head, as is the words: "OFFICIAL BOY SCOUT AXE" and COLLINS which are super nice deep and clear (see pics). The axe head does have some minor scratches, dings and pitting on all sides of the axe head (see pics). The hickory handle that the axe head is mounted to is not the original handle, but looks really awesome in my opinion (see pics). What I really love is how the previous owner used a steel strap though the eye of the axe head then screwed it into the back of the handle to secure the axe head to the handle (see pics). The strap and screw actually looks very well done with a flush screw head on the strap (see pics). The axe head is just a tad loose on the handle. No breaks, cracks or repairs on the handle, but there are some minor ding marks and paint marks on the old hickory handle (see pics). The axe is 14-3/4" long. The axe head is almost 5-1/4" long with a 3-3/8" wide cutting edge. The total weight of the axe is 1 pound 11.8 oz.
If you are a collector of vintage "BOY SCOUT" axes or hatchets from COLLINS or PLUMB you will not be disappointed at all in this fine old  "OFFICIAL BOY SCOUT AXE" from COLLINS.
