Vintage/Antique EMBOSSED Large Indian Head CAYUGA DOUBLE BIT AXE Head, Barker Rose & Kimball Inc.
It's very hard to see, but this really is a RARE! embossed "Cayuga Barker Rose & Kimball Inc. Elmira N.Y." double bit axe head.
(NOTE: Picture #2 is what a very good example of this axe head looks like. Picture #2 IS NOT THE AXE HEAD YOU WILL RECEIVE IF YOU ARE THE HIGH BIDDER. It's only there as a comparison).
If you look very closely you can see the outline of the "INDIAN HEAD" (see pics). The axe head is still nice and symmetrical (see pics). Both cutting edges have some large chips and nicks on them (see pics # 9 & 10). The axe head has some heavy pitting on both sides. And hammer marks on the top and bottom of the axe head (see pics). But as a tribute to great craftsmanship of this old axe head, you can still see how well both bits were tempered (see all pics). The axe head weighs in at 3 pounds 7.6 oz (3-1/2 lbs). The axe head is almost 9-1/2" long. Both bits are about 4-3/4" wide. This particular CAYUGA axe head is even more scarce than the small INDIAN head axes.
