Some history on Wards Master Quality axes:
WARDS MASTER QUALITY was a brand used by Montgomery Ward & Co., a major mail order company that was headquartered in Chicago. Although they were in business from 1872 through 1997 the brand in question was probably only used between the 1920s and the early 1940s. Apparently It was discontinued because of the cut-backs that arose from WWII. It is not clear if it was re-introduced after WWII.
Montgomery Ward did not manufacture goods themselves but like many companies they had things (like axes) manufactured for them with their own brand on them. All things considered, there is a strong probability that the proprietary branded Wards axes were made by the Mann Edge Tool Co. The axes so marked were of a good quality and were sold throughout the country via mail order. The company also sold goods through their retail stores that were originally located in major cities within what is considered the Midwest.
WARDS MASTER QUALITY was only one of the proprietary brands associated with Wards and it was used on both single bit and double bit axes.
The axe heads I send are thoroughly packed in the following way:
The blade is protected with a cardboard wrap.
The entire axe head is then wrapped in shipping/wrapping paper.
The axe head is then sealed in a bubble lined envelope.
Finally it is placed and sealed in a flat rate shipping envelope. The flat rate envelope is reinforced with priority packing tape on every corner and every side for extra strength and durability.
I will send pictures of your package (with the shipping label on it) before it is shipped.
