several species of cactus.The cacti, which are hollow, are dried in the sun. The spines are removed, then driven into the cactus like nails. Pebbles or other small objects are placed inside the rainstick, and the ends are sealed. The rainstick is generally used to create the sound effects of rain or, when shaken, a sound similar to the maracas. Use the rainstick as a percussion instrument by tapping and shaking the stick to a rhythm.
